Remembering William Reginald Sipfle

Last week, the Pima County Sheriff's Department announced an arrest in connection with the homicide of William Reginald Sipfle.
While the arrest has understandably received significant attention, we believe it is important to remember the event that made everything that followed possible: after more than fifty years, William Reginald Sipfle was finally identified.
For decades, his family lived without answers. That identification transformed what had been an unidentified remains case into an investigation centered on a real person, a real family, and a real history.
Because this remains an active criminal case, we will not comment on the investigation, the evidence, or any matters that are properly before the court.
Instead, we would like to express our gratitude.
First and foremost, we want to thank the Sipfle family. In the midst of an extraordinarily difficult moment, they issued a public statement expressing appreciation to the many individuals and organizations involved in helping identify William and advance the investigation. Their kind words have meant a great deal to the Resolve Forensics team.
We would also like to recognize the Pima County Sheriff's Department Cold Case Unit. Their persistence, professionalism, and commitment to following the evidence wherever it led deserve tremendous respect and recognition.
We also want to recognize the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner. The work of medical examiners is often quiet, careful, and unseen, but it is essential in unidentified remains investigations and in preserving the opportunity for answers, even many years later.
We are equally grateful to Intermountain Forensics/Cold Case Coalition, whose financial support funded the efforts to make this work possible, and to their FIGG Team, whose dedication, expertise, and countless hours of investigative genetic genealogy research contributed significantly to the identification effort.
Cases like this are never the result of a single person or organization. They are the result of families who never stop caring, investigators who never stop searching, medical professionals who preserve the possibility of future answers, volunteers who generously give their time, and communities committed to ensuring that victims are not forgotten.
To the Sipfle family, we cannot fully express how grateful we are for your kind words. It was an honor to play a small role in helping restore William's identity and support the effort to provide answers that had been sought for far too long.
Our thoughts remain with your family as the legal process continues.
